August is the peak of the Danish festival calendar. In 2026 the month opens with three separate events sharing the same first weekend and closes with three more sharing the last one, so there is rarely a weekend without something running somewhere in the country. Some of these are beech-forest camping festivals you clear a week for; others are city takeovers you can do on a day trip. All nine below have dates confirmed by the event's own official site (or, where noted, a reliable secondary source), so you can plan around them with confidence.

## GrimFest

**July 30 - August 1, 2026, Brabrand, Aarhus.** GrimFest is Denmark's biggest goth and metal weekend, drawing up to roughly 5,000 festival goers according to [Wikipedia's entry on the festival](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GrimFest?ref=resources.getvolt.dk), which cites the festival's own attendance figures. It started life as a garden party among friends in 2004 and has grown into a fixture of the Nordic metal and goth calendar without losing its scene-first character. There is no confirmed Volt presence at GrimFest, so if charging or storage matters to you here, check with the organiser directly.

## O Days

**July 30 - August 1, 2026, Refshaleøen, Copenhagen.** [O Days](https://www.odaysfestival.dk/?ref=resources.getvolt.dk) is an 18+ electronic and dance festival on the old shipyard peninsula at Refshaleøen, mixing international and local DJs across multiple stages with food and drink from local vendors. It is a day festival with no camping option, so plan your own place to sleep in the city. No confirmed Volt presence.

## Ringsted Festival

**July 30 - August 1, 2026, Ringsted Lystanlæg.** [Ringsted Festival](https://ringstedfestival.dk/?ref=resources.getvolt.dk) turns the town's public park into a three-day concert setting under the tree canopy ("under trækronerne"), with a mainstream pop and rock lineup that has included names like Tiësto, Roxette, Lukas Graham, Medina and Rasmus Seebach. It is a day festival rather than a camping one. No confirmed Volt presence.

## Smukfest

**August 2-9, 2026 (check-in from July 31), Skanderborg beech forest.** [Smukfest](https://www.smukfest.dk/?ref=resources.getvolt.dk) is the festival most people mean when they say "Denmark's most beautiful festival": a week-long event set in an actual beech forest, drawing around 60,000 daily visitors including roughly 18,000 volunteers, per [the festival's own festival page](https://www.smukfest.dk/festivalen?ref=resources.getvolt.dk). Around 30,000 people camp together on site across the week, according to [Smukfest's camping rules page](https://www.smukfest.dk/campingregler?ref=resources.getvolt.dk). This is the one festival on this list with a confirmed Volt presence: Event Lockers run all week across the Sølund entrance, Skanderborghus and Skovlunden camp areas, alongside staffed [Volt Charging Service](https://resources.getvolt.dk/services/charging/) booths at KærligHeden, Sølund entrance and Stjerneområdet, per Smukfest's own charging section on its [camping-areas page](https://www.smukfest.dk/campingomrader?ref=resources.getvolt.dk). Smukfest's own presale collection currently shows no live stock, so treat any "book now" prompt with caution; see [Smukfest's own guide on resources.getvolt.dk](https://resources.getvolt.dk/festivals/smukfest/) for the full rundown.

## Wonderfestiwall

**August 13-16, 2026 (gates open 10:00 on the 12th; camping closes 10:00 on the 16th), Bornholm.** [Wonderfestiwall](https://wonderfestiwall.dk/?ref=resources.getvolt.dk) is a camping festival on Bornholm capped at roughly 12,500 festival goers under the island's own local development plan. Full-festival passes are sold out, with only a handful of single-day tickets left, per the festival's own [ticket page](https://wonderfestiwall.dk/billetter?ref=resources.getvolt.dk). Camping is on site at Campingpladsen and Camping+. There is no confirmed Volt presence at Wonderfestiwall.

## H.C. Andersen Festivals

**August 13-22, 2026, Odense city centre.** The [H.C. Andersen Festivals](https://www.hcafestivals.com/?ref=resources.getvolt.dk) turn Odense into a ten-day, city-wide celebration of the writer's stories, mixing theatre, street art, concerts, guided tours and light shows. Most of the events across the ten days are free, with a smaller number of ticketed concerts and dinners layered on top, per the [festival's own program](https://www.hcafestivals.com/program/?ref=resources.getvolt.dk). There is no camping component and no confirmed Volt presence: this is a city festival you do from a hotel or your own bed.

## Tønder Festival

**August 26-29, 2026, Tønder.** [Tønder Festival](https://www.tf.dk/?ref=resources.getvolt.dk) is Denmark's long-running folk, country and roots festival, with grounds that hold up to 15,000 people and 2026 tickets reportedly selling at a record pace per the festival's own press release via Ritzau. Camping is split across nine named "quarters" plus two external areas, detailed on the festival's own [festival site](https://www.tf.dk/?ref=resources.getvolt.dk). Tønder appears in Volt's festival logo set but has no published case study, so treat any Volt-presence claim here as unconfirmed.

## Karrusel

**August 27-29, 2026, Refshaleøen, Copenhagen.** [Karrusel](https://www.karrusel.dk/?ref=resources.getvolt.dk) is a three-day electronic festival on the same Refshaleøen peninsula as O Days, running more than 45 names across house, disco and techno on four stages, according to the festival's own [lineup page](https://www.karrusel.dk/lineup-1?ref=resources.getvolt.dk). It is a day festival with no on-site camping, and there is no confirmed Volt presence.

## Aarhus Festuge

**August 28 - September 6, 2026, Aarhus city-wide.** [Aarhus Festuge](https://www.aarhusfestuge.dk/en?ref=resources.getvolt.dk) (Aarhus Festival) is one of Northern Europe's oldest cultural festivals, founded in 1965, and by 2026 runs more than 1,000 events across ten days, drawing up to roughly one million visits over the run according to the [festival's own "about" page](https://www.aarhusfestuge.dk/en/about-aarhus-festival/about-aarhus-festival?ref=resources.getvolt.dk). It closes the month by turning the whole city into stages, galleries and public spaces rather than a single fenced site, spanning music, art, theatre and public-space programming. There is no camping element and no confirmed Volt presence: this is the festival for anyone who wants August's biggest crowd without a tent.

## Planning around all of them

If your August plans include more than one of these, it is worth reading the season in full. Our [guide to summer festivals in Denmark 2026](https://resources.getvolt.dk/festivals/summer-festivals-denmark-guide/) covers the wider calendar back to June, and our [roundup of Denmark's camping festivals in August](https://resources.getvolt.dk/articles/camping-festivals-denmark-august/) goes deeper on the overnight side of this list: Smukfest, Wonderfestiwall, Tønder Festival, GrimFest and Skarø Festival. Where Volt does run [Event Lockers](https://resources.getvolt.dk/services/event-lockers/) or charging, check the event's own page first: booking windows open and close close to each festival's dates, and this guide is built to age with a check of the source rather than a fixed price or stock claim. For the full single-festival rundown, see our [Tønder Festival guide](https://resources.getvolt.dk/guides/tonder-festival-guide/).
