- Description: Event Lockers are pre-booked, code-locked smart lockers for events: how booking, sizing, indoor vs outdoor and cost work, and what organisers should decide.

Event Lockers are pre-booked, code-locked storage units set up on site at a festival, concert, sports event or venue, so guests have somewhere secure to leave a bag, jacket or valuables without carrying them around all day. A locker number and personal access code arrive by email and SMS before the guest's slot, and the same code opens and re-locks the door as many times as needed during opening hours.

The wider locker trade calls the same category smart lockers, smart locker solutions, storage lockers or luggage lockers, and splits deployments into indoor lockers and outdoor lockers. Volt uses one name for its product across every event: Event Lockers. This guide covers what they are, how they work on site, what they cost, and what an organiser needs to decide before booking them.

## What are Event Lockers?

A locker in the general sense is, as [Wikipedia's definition puts it](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locker?ref=resources.getvolt.dk), "a small, usually narrow storage compartment" found in large numbers in public places such as transport hubs, workplaces and schools. Event Lockers apply that same idea to a temporary event site: a bank of individually coded compartments, deployed for the days an event runs, then packed up and moved to the next one.

Volt's standard Event Locker is roughly 30 x 30 x 50 cm, about 45 litres, enough for a jacket, a small bag and everyday valuables. There is no power outlet inside a standard locker; charging is a separate service (see below). Every locker is monitored daily with on-site support during the event, and use is at the guest's own risk: Volt does not offer refunds on unused rentals and is not responsible for items left behind after the event ends.

## How Event Lockers work at an event

### Booking and access

The guest books online before the event, ideally, since prices rise closer to the date. The locker number and a personal access code arrive by email and SMS shortly before the booked slot (SMS goes to Northern European numbers, email is the backup). The guest opens the locker with the code, uses it as often as they like during opening hours at no extra cost, and re-locks it with the same code each time. For the full walkthrough, see [how Event Lockers work at festivals](https://resources.getvolt.dk/articles/how-event-lockers-work-at-festivals/).

### Sizes and formats

Volt runs Event Lockers at a range of scales. A single Volt Locker Container holds 296 lockers behind one 230V outlet, and smaller flightcase modules add roughly 40 lockers at a time, so an operator can scale a deployment up during the event without waiting on a second container. At the compact end, Volt's Cubic Locker units pack 74 numbered lockers across both faces of a single 210 x 160 x 210 cm cube, with four integrated powerbank dispenser bays built in, galvanised weather-resistant steel, its own 4G connection so it needs no venue network, and a brandable top and side panels for sponsors. The booking window varies by event too: some sites sell lockers by the day (Friday, Saturday or all days), others sell a single full-festival rate, and big camping festivals such as Smukfest sell an all-week rate that opens days before the gates do.

### Indoor lockers vs outdoor lockers

The trade's split between indoor lockers and outdoor lockers is a real operational distinction, not just marketing language. A festival field deployment has to survive rain, wind and 700 kg of steel sitting on grass or gravel for a week, which is what the galvanised, weatherproof Cubic Locker design is built for. An indoor deployment, inside an arena, transit hub, gym or a permanent venue installation, trades weatherproofing for footprint and runs year-round rather than for one event weekend. Volt runs both: temporary outdoor Event Lockers at festivals and concerts, and [permanent lockers](https://resources.getvolt.dk/guides/permanent-lockers-how-automated-smart-lockers-work/), indoor and outdoor, at arenas, stations, gyms, parks and transit sites.

### Cool Lockers: the refrigerated option

Cool Lockers are refrigerated Event Lockers for anything that needs to stay cold: food, drinks or medication like insulin. They book and open the same way as a standard locker, and availability depends on the event.

## What Event Lockers cost

Guest prices for a single Event Locker run roughly 65 to 125 DKK for a single day and roughly 150 to 399 DKK for a full festival, though the exact price depends on the event, the duration and how early it is booked. Where an event bundles a locker with charging, for example the Copenhell Locker + Charging bundle, the combined price runs around 399 DKK. Organisers usually run Event Lockers on a revenue-share basis rather than paying for the hardware outright; at GRØN's city concerts, 25 DKK from every locker booking goes to Muskelsvindfonden, a charity supporting people with muscular dystrophy and ALS, on top of the organiser's own share. For the organiser-side breakdown, see [what it costs to offer Event Lockers at your festival](https://resources.getvolt.dk/articles/what-does-it-cost-to-offer-event-lockers-at-your-festival/).

## What organisers need to decide before booking Event Lockers

- **How many, and where.** Lockers get placed by expected demand and site layout: some events split banks inside and outside the main gate, or add a bank in each camping area. See [how many Event Lockers your event needs](https://resources.getvolt.dk/articles/how-many-event-lockers-does-your-festival-need/).
- **Indoor or outdoor, and for how long.** A single-weekend field event needs weatherproof outdoor units; a multi-week camping festival or a permanent venue needs a different footprint and booking window entirely.
- **Day rate, full-event rate, or all-week.** Match the booking window to how long guests are actually on site, not to a single default.
- **Bundle with charging or not.** Storage and phone charging solve two different problems; some events sell them together as one product, which raises average order value. Volt's charging options are covered on the [charging service page](https://resources.getvolt.dk/services/charging/).
- **Branding and sponsorship.** Locker faces are brandable, from a partner logo to a full sponsor takeover; VISA ran co-branded lockers as an official partner at Heartland 2024.
- **Revenue share and any charity cut.** Decide the split with the operator up front, and whether a fixed amount per booking goes to a cause, as GRØN does.

## Event Lockers vs other on-site storage options

Event Lockers are not the only way to give guests somewhere to put their things. Here is how the main options compare.

| Option | Access model | Indoor / outdoor | Refrigeration | Typical guest price | Revenue share for organiser |

## Real Event Locker deployments

Volt has run Event Lockers at over 120 festivals and events across six countries in 2026, for more than 1 million customers since the company started in 2012\. Smukfest runs Event Lockers for the whole week, not just per day, because guests are on site that long. GRØN's city concerts route a fixed 25 DKK per locker booking to Muskelsvindfonden. VISA ran fully co-branded Event Lockers as an official partner at Heartland 2024\. See the full [Smukfest all-week Event Locker case study](https://resources.getvolt.dk/case-studies/smukfest-all-week-event-locker-operation/) for how a multi-week deployment is run in practice. Organisers coordinating on event operations more broadly, through bodies such as [YOUROPE, the European Festival Association](https://yourope.org/?ref=resources.getvolt.dk), are the same audience weighing storage and charging decisions like these every season.

## Event Lockers, answered

What are Event Lockers?

Pre-booked, code-locked storage compartments set up on site at a festival, concert, sports event or venue. A guest gets a locker number and personal access code by email and SMS before their slot, then opens and re-locks it as often as they like during opening hours.

What is the difference between Event Lockers, smart lockers and storage lockers?

They describe the same category. Smart lockers, smart locker solutions, storage lockers and luggage lockers are the general trade terms for code-accessed, monitored storage compartments. Event Lockers is Volt's product name for that same category, purpose-built for temporary event deployment rather than a fixed permanent install.

Are Event Lockers indoor or outdoor?

Both. Volt's Cubic Locker units are galvanised and weather-resistant for outdoor festival fields, and the same locker platform also runs indoors or as a permanent install at arenas, stations, gyms and transit sites.

What size is an Event Locker, and what fits?

The standard Event Locker is roughly 30 x 30 x 50 cm, about 45 litres: a jacket, a small bag and everyday valuables. There is no power outlet inside.

How much do Event Lockers cost?

Guest prices typically run about 65-125 DKK for a single day and about 150-399 DKK for a full festival, depending on the event and how early it is booked. Bundled with charging, prices run higher, for example around 399 DKK at Copenhell.

Can Event Lockers be branded or sponsored?

Yes. Locker faces can carry a partner logo or a full sponsor takeover. VISA ran co-branded Event Lockers as an official partner at Heartland 2024.

Do Event Lockers include phone charging?

Not inside the locker itself, there is no outlet in a standard unit. Some Volt Cubic Locker units have integrated powerbank dispenser bays alongside the lockers, and several events sell a combined Locker + Charging bundle as one booking.

Are Event Lockers secure, and what if I leave something behind?

Access is code-only and lockers are monitored daily with on-site support during the event. Use is at the guest's own risk: Volt does not refund unused rentals, and is not responsible for items left behind once the event ends.

Can organisers earn revenue from Event Lockers?

Yes, most events run on a negotiated revenue-share basis rather than paying for the hardware outright. Some organisers also route part of that revenue to a cause, as GRØN does with 25 DKK per booking to Muskelsvindfonden.
