Ilosaarirock is Finland's second-oldest rock festival still running, founded in 1971 and held every July at Laulurinne, a lakeside park in Joensuu, Eastern Finland. The 2026 edition ran 17 to 19 July, and the festival has already confirmed its next dates: 16 to 18 July 2027\. Here is what the festival actually is, how tickets and camping work, and whether Volt runs any services on site.

## What Ilosaarirock is

Ilosaarirock has run since 1971, making it the second-oldest rock festival in Finland still active and one of the oldest in Europe, according to its own history and independent sources. The festival is organised by **Joensuu Pop Musicians' Association** (Joensuun Popmuusikot ry), a non-profit that puts the event's profits back into the North Karelian music scene, supporting local bands and artists. It runs almost entirely on volunteer labour: over 1,500 volunteers put the weekend together each year.

The main festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday across five stages at Laulurinne, with more than 50 artists on those stages and over 100 artists once the surrounding club and side events (which start Friday) are counted.

Joensuu sits in Eastern Finland's North Karelia region. The festival's own site and [info page](https://ilosaarirock.fi/en/info/?ref=resources.getvolt.dk) are the source for current-year travel and schedule detail once the 2027 logistics are published.

## Tickets and age limits

Ilosaarirock sells three-day, two-day and one-day tickets, plus three-day and one-day VIP tickets, all through Ticketmaster. Youth tickets cover ages 13 to 17, and one-day children's tickets are available for ages 8 to 12\. The festival is all-ages, but children 12 and under must be accompanied by a guardian holding their own wristband for the same day. VIP areas, next to the two largest stages, are strictly 18+.

First-batch 2027 tickets ("Sika säkissä", an early blind-sale ticket type) are already on sale via the official site.

## Where to stay: camping

Ilosaarirock does not run its own campsite on the Laulurinne festival grounds. The festival's recommended accommodation option is **Holiday Linnunlahti Campsite** nearby. One detail worth knowing before you book: a campsite wristband from Linnunlahti is separate from your festival wristband. Festival-goers staying at Linnunlahti still have to exchange their festival ticket for a wristband at Ilosaarirock's own official exchange points, since Linnunlahti only handles the campsite wristband, not festival entry.

## Is Volt at Ilosaarirock?

No. Ilosaarirock does not currently have a confirmed Volt service presence: there is no live Volt booking collection for the festival and no public case study confirming lockers or charging on site. If you are heading to Ilosaarirock, bring a charged phone and keep valuables with you or with the festival's own bag-check option; Volt does not currently operate one there.

Volt does run [Event Lockers](https://resources.getvolt.dk/services/event-lockers/) and [charging](https://resources.getvolt.dk/services/charging/) at other Finnish festivals, including [Provinssi](https://resources.getvolt.dk/festivals/provinssi/) and Ruisrock, across its wider footprint of over 120 festivals and events.
