Best camping festivals in Norway in 2026

Norway's festival season stretches from late May through early September, and several of the biggest events are built around camping. Some sit inside historic fortresses, others occupy remote islands or hilltop meadows. This list covers the best options for 2026, from rock gatherings to folk stages, with confirmed details on dates, venues, and whether camping is actually available on site.

Tons of Rock, Oslo, 24–27 June 2026

Tons of Rock is Norway's flagship hard rock and metal festival, held at Ekebergsletta on the hillside south-east of Oslo city centre. The 2026 lineup includes Iron Maiden, Bring Me The Horizon, Alice Cooper, and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, across four stages over four days. For the second year running the audience voted it festival of the year (tonsofrock.no).

On-site camping is available within the festival grounds. Festival passes for 2026 are sold out; check the official site for any remaining day tickets or resale options. The site also includes a carnival, food court, and new areas added for the 2026 edition.

Landstreff Fredriksten, Halden, 22–24 May 2026

Landstreff Fredriksten is one of Norway's largest russ festivals, drawing around 10,000 participants to Fredriksten Festning, a 17th-century fortress above the town of Halden (landstreff-fredriksten.no). The event is open to russ only, with an 18-year-old age requirement.

Bergenfest, Bergen, 10–13 June 2026

Bergenfest fills the grounds of Bergenhus Fortress, a medieval castle on the Bergen waterfront, for four days every June. The 2026 lineup includes Lewis Capaldi, Sigrid, The Hives, Of Monsters and Men, and Kings of Convenience, with 61 artists total across the programme (bergenfest.no). Around 60,000 festival goers are expected across the four days.

There is no on-site camping at Bergenfest itself. The nearest campsites are 14–15 km outside the city centre; Bergen's public transport connects them to the festival grounds. Stavernfestivalen, Stavern, 2–4 July 2026

Stavernfestivalen is a three-day summer festival held at Larvik Golf Arena in the coastal town of Stavern, outside Larvik in Vestfold (stavernfestivalen.no). The event draws around 75,000 festival goers across the weekend, with a pop, rock, and urban lineup.

Trænafestivalen, Træna, 9–12 July 2026

Trænafestivalen takes place on the small island of Træna, roughly 200 km north of the Arctic Circle off the Helgeland coast (trena.net). Reaching it requires a ferry from Stokkvågen or Bodø, and almost everyone who attends stays on the island. Tent spots are sold alongside festival tickets at 795 NOK per person; van and caravan spaces are also available.

The festival's signature performance space is Kirkehelleren, a natural cave formation where artists play under the rock ceiling. Other stages are spread across the island. DJ sets run through the night under the midnight sun. The 2026 festival pass sold out, but day tickets remain available through the official site. There is no quick route in or out, which is part of what makes this festival unlike anything else in Norway.

Malakoff Rock Festival, Nordfjordeid, 17–18 July 2026

Malakoff is a two-day rock and pop festival at Malakoffparken, a historic military parade ground in the village of Nordfjordeid in western Norway (malakoff.no). The festival camp accommodates around 5,000 campers, and tent-only camping is the standard option. The 2026 lineup includes Dumdum Boys and Turbonegro alongside Blood Command and a full supporting roster.

Nordfjordeid has a permanent population of roughly 3,000 people. During Malakoff weekend, the village fills many times over. The setting, at the end of a fjord with mountains on three sides, gives the event a scale that does not match the headline numbers on paper.

Festningen, Trondheim, 4–5 September 2026

Festningen is central Norway's largest music festival, running two days in early September at Kristiansten Fortress above Trondheim city centre (festningen.no). The 2026 lineup includes Sigrid, Erik og Kriss, Synne Vo, and Soppgirobygget, with a programme covering electronic, pop, and urban music.

There is no camping at Festningen. Hotels, hostels, and short-term rentals in Trondheim are the standard options; the fortress is a short walk from the city centre.
