Coastal festivals are their own kind of weekend. 2. Kaløvig Havnefestival, near Aarhus, Denmark, 14 to 16 August

A harbour festival at Kaløvig Bådhavn on Aarhus Bay, mixing live sets from Danish artists with a food and shellfish programme served at tables looking out over the water. 3. Pstereo, Trondheim, Norway, 21 to 22 August

Pstereo takes over Marinen, a park on the Nidelva river mouth where it meets the Trondheimsfjord, for its 20th anniversary edition in 2026. The festival describes Marinen as one of Norway's most striking festival sites, framed by Nidaros Cathedral, the fortress and the fjord itself (official festival page). 4. Åland Sea Jazz, Mariehamn, Åland Islands, Finland, 20 to 23 August

The most maritime entry on this list. Åland Sea Jazz marks its fifth anniversary in Mariehamn, the capital of Finland's Åland archipelago, with four days of jazz across a run of seaside venues, including the Seafarers' Chapel and evening jam sessions at Hotel Arkipelag (official site). It is the closing date in a wider Archipelago Sea Jazz festival series that starts further into the Finnish archipelago in July.

5. Hardanger Music Festival, Lofthus, Norway, 26 to 30 August

A change of register: Hardanger Music Festival is a classical and chamber programme staged in churches, concert halls and other venues around the Sørfjord in Ullensvang, with the fjord and mountains as the backdrop rather than a stage set. The 2026 edition is a jubilee year for the festival (official programme). It is the one entry here built for listening rather than swimming, and worth including precisely because it shows how differently a coastal setting can be used.

6. Aaben Havn, Aabenraa, Denmark, 11 September

The latest date on this list, and free to attend. Aaben Havn opens Aabenraa's working harbour, on the Aabenraa Fjord in South Jutland, for a day of free concerts, food stalls and activities on the quayside.
