What to pack for Smukfest 2026 (and what to leave at home)
A Smukfest 2026 packing checklist for the beech forest at Skanderborg, 2 to 9 August: what to bring for camping or a day trip, what the festival bans, and how Event Lockers and the Volt Charging Service replace a heavy bag.
Pack light. That is the whole philosophy. Smukfest 2026 runs from 2 to 9 August in the beech forest at Skanderborg (official practical info), and everything you bring gets carried through trees, crowds and the occasional Danish downpour. Here is what earns a place in your bag, what the festival will not let through the gate, and how to walk in with almost nothing at all.
First: are you camping or day-tripping?
These are two different packing jobs. Campers set up a small household in Bøgeskoven for up to a week. Day ticket holders need one smart outfit, a rain layer and a charged phone, and that is about it.
If you are camping, Smukfest has a whole menu of ways to stay, from a patch of grass for your own tent to pre-set options where the comfort is already sorted (official camping areas). Book one of the pre-pitched options and you can cut the checklist below roughly in half.
The camping checklist
- Shelter and sleep: tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat. Or book a pre-pitched spot and skip all three.
- Rain gear: a real rain jacket and footwear that can handle mud. It is a forest in August, so plan for sunshine and showers in the same afternoon.
- A warm layer: Danish nights get cold enough to make you regret a bag full of only t-shirts.
- Camp food and drinks: allowed in the camping areas, but not inside the festival grounds itself (official rules summary). Skip glass entirely.
- A refillable water bottle: plastic, never glass.
- Sunscreen and earplugs: the two cheapest upgrades to your whole week.
- Toiletries: plus hand sanitizer and a small towel.
- Phone and payment card: your wallet can stay thin, Danish festivals run on cards and phones.
- A powerbank: or skip packing one and rent a Volt-Charger on site instead. More on that below.
The day-trip version
Phone, payment card, sunscreen, rain layer, earplugs. Done. Leave the folding chair at home, since seating furniture is not allowed on the festival grounds anyway, and if your bag still feels heavy, stash it in one of the Event Lockers on site. Details below.
What to leave at home
The festival grounds have a clear banned list: outside food and drinks, glass bottles, drones, animals, seating furniture, flags and banners, fireworks, laser pointers and professional recording gear all stay home (official practical page). In the camping areas, inflatable pools and large pavilions are also off the table.
Rules get tuned from year to year, so skim the official rules page once more before you zip the bag.
The carry-less play: Event Lockers plus a Volt-Charger
The lightest bag is the one you are not carrying. Volt runs Event Lockers at Smukfest, including full-week lockers for campers, so your valuables, a bag, extra clothing and anything else that fits can live somewhere safe while you are in front of a stage.
Booking is the easy part. Book online, and your locker number and personal access code show up right after purchase and land by email and SMS. Open your locker as many times as you like during the rental period, at no extra cost. At the end, just leave it empty, closed and locked.
Same logic for your phone. With the Volt Charging Service you rent a Volt-Charger and swap it for a fresh one once a day at any Volt point. No hunting for a free socket, no dead phone right when you are trying to find your people after the encore, no cables taking up space in your bag.
Together, they are how a festival goer walks into Bøgeskoven with pockets instead of luggage. Charging for this year goes through the Smukfest 2026 presale, so sort it before you travel and it is one less thing to pack.
Getting there without lugging everything
You do not need to drive a packed car. Direct trains run to Skanderborg Station with shuttle buses onward to the festival, direct buses connect from Aarhus, Horsens and Silkeborg, and there is free festival parking with free shuttle buses linking parking, camping and the grounds, plus bike parking if you arrive on two wheels (official transport info). Exact routes and hours for 2026 live on that same page, so check it the week before you go.
The less you bring, the easier every one of those legs gets. A tent, a daypack and a locker code beats three IKEA bags and a sore shoulder every single time.
The short version
Pack for a week in a forest, not a month abroad: sleep setup, rain gear, warm layer, sunscreen, earplugs, phone and card. Leave the glass, the drone, the chair and the giant pavilion at home. Let Event Lockers hold your stuff and let a Volt-Charger keep your phone alive, and you get to spend the week with your hands free.
Everything Volt runs in the forest, from full-week lockers to the once-a-day charger swap, is on the Volt Smukfest hub page. See you between the beech trees.
