Getting there

Väinölänniemi sits at the tip of central Kuopio, and the official arrival page is clear about the best way in: walk. Put Lappalaisenkatu 2 into your maps app and follow Sepänkatu toward the water.

Coming from further out, trains run to Kuopio railway station, and local Vilkku buses operate through the festival days with extra night services. Long-distance coaches connect Kuopio with Helsinki, Tampere, Turku and Jyväskylä over the weekend, and there is an official taxi stand near the main gates. Timetables tighten up close to the event, so check the arrival page before you travel.

Bag rules and what you can bring

Kuopiorock does not publish a bag size limit, but every festival goer passes a security check at the gate, on every entry. The official safety page keeps the current banned list. The short version: no drinks, bottles or cans of your own, no umbrellas or camping chairs, and no system cameras, drones or selfie sticks. Phones and pocket cameras are fine.

One friendly exception: you can bring two empty, transparent 0.5 litre bottles and fill them inside the area. Anything on the banned list stays at home, so pack light and let a locker carry the rest once you are in.

This one is official: the festival's services page confirms secure lockers in the festival area, run in cooperation with Volt. The same page lists a cloakroom for coats and bigger items, plus the Väinölänniemi swimming beach, which is exactly the kind of place you do not want to be holding everyone's phones.

Here is how Event Lockers work: you get a personal code by email and SMS shortly before your rental starts, and you can open and re-lock your locker as often as you like during opening hours. Each locker is roughly 30 x 30 x 50 cm, comfortable for a phone, wallet, powerbank, light jacket and a small bag.
