Copenhell 2026: The Festival Guide for Copenhagen's Metal Weekend

Copenhell brings four days of international heavy metal to Refshaleøen, Copenhagen's former shipyard waterfront, every June. The 2026 edition ran 24 to 27 June, with Iron Maiden, Bring Me the Horizon, A Perfect Circle and Volbeat headlining across four stages. What is Copenhell?

Copenhell is Denmark's flagship metal festival, held each June at Refshaleøen, a former B&W shipyard island in Copenhagen Harbour. The official site describes the grounds as a maze of corrugated iron, gnarled metalwork and fire-breathing dragon heads. The vibe is closer to a Mad Max film set than a green-field summer festival, which is most of the point.

The festival launched in 2010 and has grown into one of Europe's most respected metal events, drawing headliners including Iron Maiden, Metallica, Rammstein and Judas Priest across its history. The address is Refshalevej 185, 1432 Copenhagen.

The 2026 edition featured around 85 bands across four stages:

• Helviti: the main stage, on the open ground facing the waterfront
• Hades: the second stage
• Pandæmonium: mid-sized, indoor-feeling
• Gehenna: the smallest stage, added 2019, for discovery acts

All festival tickets in 2026 included access to COPENHELL Con, a comic and geek culture fair running inside the same site. The separate spinoffs, COPENHELL Freezes Over (emerging bands), the COPENHELL Rock Academy and the COPENHELL Metal Cruise from Copenhagen to Oslo, run independently of the main festival ticket.

Copenhell 2026 dates and headliners

The 2026 edition ran Wednesday 24 June to Saturday 27 June. Four days, four headliners, around 85 bands in total. (copenhell.dk)

• Friday 26 June: A Perfect Circle, plus Trivium, Anthrax, Soilwork, All Them Witches and more. Friday also featured the "15 Years in Hell" anniversary show, a Copenhell-curated all-star performance to mark 15 editions of the festival
• Saturday 27 June: Volbeat, plus Alestorm, Social Distortion, BABYMETAL, Saxon, Malevolence and more

Is there camping at Copenhell?

Yes. The Sønder Hoved campsite sits adjacent to the festival grounds on Refshaleøen. Options for 2026 included your own tent, Tenthouses, Sleepboxes and Cabins. Copenhell is not a day-festival-only event. Many festival goers camp for the full four nights.

How to get to Copenhell

Refshaleøen is around 10 minutes by bike from Copenhagen city centre. Public transport also runs to the site during the festival. The official guidance on both options is at copenhell.dk/en/practical-info/.

Bicycle

The simplest option. Unmonitored free bike parking at Refshalevej 114. You leave when you want and avoid any queue getting out. Copenhell consistently recommends bikes on its practical info page.

Bus

Routes 2A and 666 serve Refshaleøen from central Copenhagen. Extra festival shuttle buses run during the festival days. Check current timetables at rejseplanen.dk as routes and schedules are updated each year.

Harbour bus

Routes 991 and 992 run to Refshaleøen during the festival, departing from Nyhavn and other harbour stops from 15:00 on festival days. A standard Copenhagen public transport ticket covers these. Night routes back into the city run until around 03:00 on festival nights.

Car

Copenhell explicitly does not recommend driving to the festival. Limited drop-off and pick-up zones exist at Vindmøllevej but parking is not guaranteed. The official practical info page is clear on this: "We don't recommend that you take your car to COPENHELL."

What to pack, and what to leave behind

Copenhell operates a strict bag rule at the festival entrance. The official practical info page states: "You may bring a small bag no bigger than the size of your back into the festival site." Anything larger must go into a locker before or just inside the gates.

You can bring in:

• Empty plastic water bottles or canteens (no metal flasks)
• Compact cameras, GoPros, phones, tablets
• Assistive devices

Not allowed in the festival grounds:

• Camping chairs, stools, umbrellas
• System cameras with interchangeable lenses
• Selfie sticks
• Weapons, fireworks, gas canisters

In the campsite only (not the festival grounds):

• Light furniture, parasols under 2 metres
• Small Bluetooth speakers (CE-approved, within noise limits)

Volt at Copenhell: Event Lockers and charging

Volt runs Event Lockers and the Volt Charging Service at Copenhell. Volt is at over 120 events across Europe each year, and Copenhell is one of its long-running festival partnerships in Denmark.

The two services are different things. Event Lockers handle your storage, so you are not carrying a bag around the site all day. The Volt Charging Service keeps your phone running, with a swap when it runs out. You can book one, the other, or both.

Event Lockers at Copenhell

Volt Event Lockers at Copenhell sit inside the festival grounds near the entrance, after access control, under cover. Each locker is approximately 30 cm wide, 30 cm deep and 50 cm tall: room for a bag, a jacket and anything you want off your back for the day. Lockers do not have power outlets.

How it works:

1. Book online via getvolt.dk before the festival
2. Volt sends your locker number and personal access code by email and SMS shortly before your rental starts
3. Open and re-lock as many times as you like during opening hours, at no extra cost
4. On-site Volt staff are on hand if anything goes wrong

For the 2026 edition, lockers were available as single-day rentals from 85 DKK and full-festival rentals at 275 DKK, with a camping locker option for Sønder Hoved. Full-festival lockers sold out well before the gates opened. The bag rule at Copenhell means lockers are not optional if you are bringing more than a small day pack.

Unused rentals are non-refundable. Do not leave valuables in the locker overnight if you are not renting a full-festival slot.

Volt Charging Service at Copenhell

The Volt Charging Service is a pocket-sized Volt-Charger you pick up at the Volt Container on site. When it runs out, go back to any Volt swapping station and swap it for a fully charged one. You can do that once per day. At the end of the festival, return the charger to get your deposit back.

How it works:

1. Book online via getvolt.dk before the festival
2. Pick up your Volt-Charger at the Volt Container on site, pay a refundable deposit
3. When it runs out, swap it for a full one at a Volt swapping station, once per day
4. Return the charger at the end of the last day to get the deposit refunded to the same card

For the 2026 edition, the Volt Charging Service was 199 DKK plus a 175 DKK refundable deposit. No hunting for a wall outlet while you are at the barrier.
