GrimFest 2026 runs from 30 July to 1 August at Grimhøjgaard in Brabrand, about 5 km west of Aarhus. What GrimFest is

GrimFest started in 2004 as a garden party among four friends on the Grimhøjgaard farm. It grew from there without growing too much. The festival caps at 5,000 festival goers, and some editions have run with fewer than 2,000 tickets offered. Staying small is a deliberate choice.

The name is a play on the farm name, Grimhøj, and a pointed joke about Smukfest, "Danmarks Smukkeste Festival" (Denmark's Most Beautiful Festival). GrimFest named itself "Danmarks Grimmeste Festival": Denmark's Ugliest. That gap in the name tells you most of what you need to know: stripped back, underground, no interest in competing on scale.

The festival is volunteer-run and has a genuine track record of early bets on Danish acts. The 2026 music programme

The 2026 lineup is anchored by established names on each day, with a long tail of emerging and underground acts across the three evenings.

Thursday opens with Sort Sol, one of the longest-running post-punk bands in Danish music with roots going back to the early 1980s, and Anne Linnet, a prolific singer-songwriter who has crossed between rock, pop, and experimental work for decades. The Thursday bill also includes Brimheim, who sits in the darker end of alternative folk and experimental pop, and Ashes of Billy on the harder rock end.

Getting to Brabrand

The venue address is Grimhøjvej 20, 8220 Brabrand. There are three realistic options for getting there.

Bus 4A. This is the straightforward route. Take bus 4A from Banegårdspladsen / Park Allé in central Aarhus in the direction of Brabrand. Exit at the Grimhøjvej stop. From there, it is a 7-minute walk to the festival entrance. Multiple sources including the festival's own material confirm this route. Timetables are on midttrafik.dk. Check these before the festival, as services can run more or less frequently during events.

By car. There is paid parking on site. A parking ticket covers all three days at 150 DKK, purchased in advance when you buy your tickets. No overnight vehicles are allowed without a camping ticket. GrimFest encourages carpooling if you are coming with a group.

By bike. Brabrand sits on the western fringe of Aarhus, around 5 km from the city centre. Cycling infrastructure connects the two areas. If you are camping light and staying nearby, this is a practical option.

Camping

The site has camping on the festival grounds. The camping area opens Thursday at noon, giving you several hours before the Thursday programme begins at 4 PM. It closes Sunday at noon. That means three full nights of camping across the festival.

Camping costs 300 DKK per person, booked separately from your festival pass. Motorhomes and caravans pay 600 DKK per vehicle. The camping area has toilets, showers, a stall selling breakfast and snacks, and mobile phone charging points on site, according to Aarhus Inside. Showers are token-operated, paid for at the camp shop, per grimfest.dk.

Rules in the camping area, taken directly from grimfest.dk:

• Open fire is strictly forbidden. Storm cookers are also not allowed.
• No diesel generators. There are no power hookups available on site.
• No umbrellas or pavilions in the camping area.
• No glass bottles anywhere in camping. Beverages are fine but must be in non-glass containers.
• Overnight vehicles require a valid camping ticket.

Food, drink, and what else is on

Inside the festival grounds, you have two options for food. The food court covers the everyday end: hot food, street food, and options including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices. The other option is Restaurant GrimLauget, a sit-down restaurant running lunch service and three-course dinners throughout the weekend. GrimLauget takes reservations in advance.

Outside food and drinks are not permitted on the festival grounds. The bars inside are open during the festival programme. In the camping area, you can bring your own drinks as long as they are in non-glass containers.

Beyond the music, the Undergrim stage runs a separate programme of stand-up comedy, poetry slam, talks, and workshops across the weekend. Two skate areas on site host street and ramp skating contests. This side of the programme is not an afterthought: GrimFest has built it consistently over the years, and it gives the weekend a different feel from a straight concert event.

• Festival goers aged 0 to 12 need a child day ticket (75 DKK when available), purchased alongside an adult ticket. Children under 13 are discouraged from being on site after 8 PM.
