Samsø Festival is a four-day music festival on Samsø, a small Danish island you can only reach by ferry, with the Hou crossing taking 60 minutes according to Samsø Færgen's own route page. The ferry is part of the festival

There's no bridge to Samsø, so every festival goer arrives by boat. Three routes get you there, per the festival's own ferry and transport page:

• Hou to Sælvig: the shortest crossing from Jutland, run by Samsø Færgen on the ferry Prinsesse Isabella. The crossing takes 60 minutes.
• Kalundborg to Ballen: the route from Zealand, run by Samsø Linjen.
• Aarhus (Dokk1) to Sælvig: a direct express option straight from the city, also via Samsø Færgen.

Why you can't just turn up

Samsø Festival caps itself at around 6,000 full-festival wristbands plus roughly 400 day tickets sold for each of the four days, which the festival treats as its hard maximum, not a target. Festival chairman Thomas Jakobsen put it plainly to TV2 Østjylland: "We cannot push more people to and from the island." The ferry capacity, not the field size, sets the ceiling, and it's a big part of why the festival has kept its small-island, cozy identity since 1989.

Camping across the four days

Camping isn't bundled into the festival wristband, you book a pitch separately, and for four-day ticket holders the campsite runs from Tuesday morning to Sunday at noon, according to the official camping page. Options on that page include:

• A standard tent pitch (bring your own tent)
• Samlejr, a shared tent pitched and ready before you arrive
• Tenthouse, a pre-set glamping tent with a proper mattress and its own power outlet
• Camper van pitches with a 230V hookup
• Pavilion space, up to 3x3 metres, with a refundable deposit on setup

The same page lists what stays out of the camping area: no glass bottles, no gas cylinders or other pressurised bottles (Trangia stoves included), no open flame such as candles, and no large furniture or appliances like sofas, fridges or freezers. Pets aren't allowed on site either. Quiet hours differ by camping zone, family and quiet areas cut off earliest, so check the official camping page for this year's exact cutoffs before you pick a pitch.

Tickets, before the lineup drops

Samsø Festival sells four-day passes and single-day passes for each of the four days, and the festival's own ticket page says pricing is at its lowest in early-bird presale, before the music programme is announced on Maundy Thursday. Buy only through the official site or its listed partners: the same page warns that duplicate barcodes only authenticate the first wristband scanned in at check-in, so a resold or copied ticket can leave someone stranded at the gate.

A note on staying charged and sorted

Volt doesn't run lockers or charging on site at Samsø yet, so there's no booth to point you to on the island. Worth planning for anyway: it's a four-day trip with a ferry crossing on both ends, and a phone that dies on the boat back is its own kind of bad ending.
