Smukfest starts 2 August in the beech forest outside Skanderborg. Check-in opens 31 July and the forest fills fast. Key dates at a glance

Smukfest 2026 runs from Sunday 2 August to Sunday 9 August. The four main concert days are Wednesday 5 through Saturday 8 August. Some camping areas open earlier, and parking access begins before the official start date.

Where is Smukfest?

Smukfest is held in Skanderborg Dyrehave, a mature beech forest on the edge of Skanderborg in Central Jutland. The forest setting is the whole point: the canopy blocks most of the summer sun, the stages sit between 100-year-old trees, and the atmosphere is unlike any arena or open-field festival. The trade-off is that mornings in the forest are consistently damp, roots make the ground uneven, and rain turns the paths muddy quickly.

The festival office and post-festival lost-and-found are at Birkevej 20, 8660 Skanderborg. The main Waltherhalla check-in is at Birkevej 23, next door.

How to get there

By train

Skanderborg Station is served by regular DSB intercity trains. From Copenhagen, the journey takes roughly 2.5 hours. From Aarhus, it is around 20 minutes. During the festival, station staff are on duty and onward buses run directly from the platform.

From the station, take route 25S to the festival grounds and Sherwood, or route 26S to KærligHeden. Timetables and the 99 DKK Midttrafik transport add-on (which covers all regional buses and the Letbane for 16 hours) are at midttrafik.dk/smukfest.

By bus

Direct Midttrafik buses serve Smukfest from Aarhus, Horsens, Silkeborg, Odder, Tranbjerg, Galten, and Skanderborg Station itself. The 99 DKK festival transport add-on also covers night buses, which matters when you leave the grounds at 02:00.

By car

Two free official parking areas serve the festival:

A valid wristband or festival ticket is required to access parking. Overnight stays in the car parks are not permitted. Campervans and RVs must use FriHeden camping instead.

Central Skanderborg is subject to extensive parking restrictions from Saturday 1 August. Several roads close entirely from 2 August until 10 August, including Horsensvej, Dyrehaven, Slotsholmen, and Sølundsvej. Cars parked illegally are removed at the owner's expense. If you are dropping someone off, the designated zone is on Vestergade (between Kastanievej and Møllegade), accessible via Vroldvej near the Lidl and Rema 1000. The limit is three minutes only.

Free festival shuttle buses

Six colour-coded shuttle routes run 24 hours a day from Friday 31 July at 07:00 through Monday 10 August at 14:00. They connect the camping areas to the main Sherwood festival entrance and to the car parks.

Trailers and hand carts are not allowed on shuttle buses. Bicycles have their own parking area at Sølund, opposite the main festival entrance.

What you can bring through the gate

The rules differ between the camping areas and the concert grounds (the area behind the turnstiles). Read both sections if this is your first year, because the two sets of rules catch different things.

On the concert grounds

The only drink allowed into the concert area is water in a reusable bottle. All food and drinks bought outside the festival grounds are prohibited, and this includes alcohol you brought to camp. Glass bottles are not permitted anywhere on the grounds, even bottles purchased at festival bars; consume them there or transfer to a plastic cup before leaving the bar area.

What is also prohibited, per the Smukfest conduct rules:

• Animals
• Professional recording equipment, cameras with interchangeable lenses, video rigs, or audio equipment
• Drones
• Flags, banners, or poles
• Seating furniture and chairs
• Fireworks
• Laser pens
• Drugs and other controlled substances

Diabetics may carry emergency juice as an exception. Unauthorised entry carries a fine of 4,500 DKK plus a police report.

At the camping areas

Allowed at camp:

• Your own food and drinks, including alcohol
• Lightweight camping furniture
• Tarps that cover only your own tent
• Umbrellas up to 2 metres in diameter
• Hard plastic or plastic-element coolers
• CE-approved electrical devices and unmodified solar panels
• A utility wagon to haul your gear in (note: not on the shuttle buses)

Not allowed at camp:

• Pavilions and party tents
• Umbrellas over 2 metres
• Large batteries or generators
• Gas cylinders
• Draft beer systems
• Confetti cannons and dry ice
• Padded or household furniture
• Motorized vehicles, shopping trolleys, and bicycles
• Open flames: candles, BBQ grills, and camping stoves are all banned
• Awnings attached to campervans (at FriHeden)
• Drones

Tent size limit: Maximum 16 square metres including guy ropes and pegs. Empty or abandoned tents may be removed by staff.

Noise rules vary by zone. Some require music fully off between midnight and 08:00; others only require a volume reduction. Check the Smukkortet interactive map in the Smukfest app before you choose a zone if sleep matters to you.

Camping zones: which one to pick

There are 13 camping zones in total. Your wristband includes free tent camping for the full week, whichever zone you choose. Here is what separates them:

All camping areas are connected to Sherwood by the free shuttle network. Facilities at most zones include free long-term parking, shuttle access, and locker room use. Showers cost 30 DKK (paid via wristband) and include electricity for a hair dryer.

Tickets and wristbands

The only official and secure place to buy or transfer a Smukfest ticket is smukshop.dk. Tickets sold on Facebook groups and elsewhere are common targets for fraud. Do not buy from unofficial sources.

Ticket prices for 2026:

As of this writing, all Wednesday through Saturday tickets and full-week partout passes are sold out. Sunday tickets remain available. A waitlist is open for sold-out categories: you receive an email and SMS if a spot opens. Check current availability at smukshop.dk.

Your wristband is your ticket, your payment card, and your parking pass in one. Load funds onto it via the Smukfest app or at top-up points on site. The festival is cashless everywhere.

Keeping your phone charged

Your phone is your wristband wallet, your festival map, and your schedule. Losing battery at Smukfest means losing access to all three. The good news is that the festival has invested heavily in charging infrastructure across the grounds.

Free AURA charging on the festival grounds

AURA charging stations are built into tables and benches throughout the concert grounds. These are free to use for any festival goer. If you are willing to sit down and wait, this is the zero-cost option.

Volt Charging Service

For festival goers who want a Volt powerbank to keep in their pocket through the day, the Volt Charging Service (staffed rental) is available at three locations: the Sølund entrance, the Stjerne Bar area, and KærligHeden. Rent a Volt-Charger, swap it for a fresh one once a day at any staffed Volt booth. If you brought a Volt-Charger from a previous event, you skip the deposit.

Volt Self-Service Charging

If you prefer not to queue at a staffed point, Volt Self-Service Charging stations are located at Skanderborghus, NaturligHeden, Banerne, Volunteer Camp, Sølund, and Skovlunden. Take a charger, keep it with you. Each unit has three built-in cables.

Event Lockers

Volt Event Lockers are available at the Sølund entrance, Skanderborghus, and Skovlunden. A locker is worth it if you plan to leave the tent early and do not want to carry valuables through the crowd all day. Dimensions: 30 x 30 x 50 cm. Rent via the Smukfest app or on site.

Food, drinks, and paying for things

The festival is entirely cashless. Your wristband is your wallet. Load money onto it before you arrive via the Smukfest app, or at top-up points inside the grounds. The app shows your balance in real time.

Over 70 food stalls operate during the concert days, with options covering vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free diets. The app lets you filter by dietary preference. Water is available free at refill stations throughout the grounds.

Pre-ordering cold drinks

Before 1 August at 23:59, you can pre-order cold drinks for your camping zone through Smukkiosken. Available products include pilsner, non-alcoholic options, Blanche, and Shaker Sport. Pre-ordering is cheaper than buying on arrival and the drinks are delivered cold to your zone.

Ice

Ice bags (2 kg for 35 DKK) are available at various locations on site. If you are bringing a cooler, this is how you keep it cold.

Ten things that actually make the week better

These come from the festival itself and from years of festival goer experience. They are not about gear lists; they are about decisions that are easy to get wrong on a first visit.

1. Arrive Sunday if you can

KærligHeden and NaturligHeden open Sunday 2 August, three days before the first concert. Arriving early gives you first choice of pitch, time to get your bearings, and a calmer setup before Wednesday's crowds arrive.

2. The forest is always damp in the morning

Even after a dry evening, the beech tree canopy holds moisture overnight and releases it as condensation. Keep your sleeping bag and spare clothes in a dry bag or inside a sealed tent liner. This is the most common mistake first-timers make at Smukfest specifically.

3. Footwear is the decision that defines your week

Roots, uneven ground, and occasional mud are constants. Choose shoes with real grip. Breaking in new boots at a festival is a reliable way to spend the week with blisters. Whatever you pick, test it on a long day before you arrive.

4. Build a daypack, leave the big bag at camp

A small pack with a refillable water bottle, a powerbank, a rain jacket, and earplugs covers most situations. Fewer trips back to the tent means more spontaneous stage-hopping.

5. Download the app before you arrive

The Smukfest app holds your personal schedule, the full Smukkortet map (including toilet locations), wristband top-up, and practical info. Mobile signal at the entrances and main stages is often congested. Download everything while you still have a reliable connection.

6. Load your wristband before you get there

The wristband is the only payment method on site. Top-up points exist inside the grounds, but queues build on Wednesday when the day-ticket crowd arrives. Load funds via the app before you leave home.

7. Pre-order drinks from Smukkiosken

The deadline is 1 August at 23:59. Pre-ordered cold drinks are cheaper and delivered to your camping zone. It is one of those things that sounds optional until you are dragging warm beer to camp in 25-degree heat.

8. Showers: go early or go mid-afternoon

Showers cost 30 DKK (paid via wristband) and electricity for a hair dryer is included. Morning queues on peak days are long. The dead time between 14:00 and 17:00 is consistently shorter.

9. Check your camping zone's noise rules before you commit

Not all zones are the same. Some require music fully off from midnight to 08:00. Others only require a volume reduction. If eight hours of sleep matters to you, check the Smukkortet map before you pitch your tent.

10. Transfer tickets only through smukshop.dk

If you cannot attend and need to transfer, or if you are buying a last-minute ticket, smukshop.dk is the only secure method. Wristbands bought or sold outside this system carry a real risk of fraud. The festival does not assist with tickets purchased through unofficial channels.
