Musik i Lejet 2026: Event Lockers and Charging with Volt

Musik i Lejet runs three days each July in North Zealand, Denmark, and its 2026 edition took place on a new coastal site: Rågelejevej 37B, Vejby, the former Tisvildeleje Camping ground, still close to the coast that gave the festival its start. Volt runs Event Lockers and the Volt Charging Service there, the same deployment template used at Denmark's largest festivals, sized to a boutique, mid-week crowd.

A festival built by twins, forced to move by a planning ruling

Musik i Lejet started small. According to the festival's own history page, twins Andreas and Kristian Grauengaard founded it in 2009 with two friends, first held on Stejlepladsen in Tisvildeleje, drawing around 700 people to hear 16 bands over three days. It grew steadily: paid admission from 2013, roughly 5,000 festival goers by its 2014 five-year anniversary, and 10,000 visitors with 1,500 volunteers by 2017.

The move to its current site was not a choice. Denmark's Planklagenævnet (the national planning appeals board) ruled that the festival could no longer use its long-time Tisvildeleje beach location, and the organisers relocated to what is now called Tisvildeleje Camping, formerly Vejby Strand Campingplads, a site roughly four times the size of the original ground at close to 93,000 square metres of coastal terrain. The 2026 edition ran Thursday to Saturday, 16 to 18 July, at that address, still a short stretch from the beach town that gave the festival its name.

What Volt runs at Musik i Lejet

Volt runs two services on site: Event Lockers and the Volt Charging Service. Festival goers book an Event Locker online in advance, around 30 by 30 by 50 centimetres, and open it during the event with a personal access code sent by email and SMS, opening and re-locking as often as they like during festival hours. The festival's own practical information page lists locker booking as a standard part of planning a visit.

For charging, festival goers pick up a Volt-Charger at a staffed booth and swap it for a fresh one once a day, the same swap-pass mechanic Volt runs at its largest Danish deployments. At a three-day festival that runs until 4am each night, a device that survives the whole day matters as much as it does at a much bigger site, and the staffed model keeps the process simple for a crowd that is not necessarily used to self-service charging points.

A boutique deployment on a bigger site

Musik i Lejet does not run at Roskilde or Smukfest scale. That is the point of including it in Volt's case-study set: the same locker and charging infrastructure that covers a multi-day festival of tens of thousands, as documented in Volt's case study on Copenhell, scales down cleanly to a three-day, single-site event without losing the staffed-booth model festival goers recognise from bigger festivals.

The new site's extra room, four times the footprint of the original Tisvildeleje ground, gave the layout more space to work with than a forced relocation might suggest. For an organiser planning a locker and charging setup for the first time, that is a useful data point: the deployment does not need festival-scale footfall to make sense, and a larger site does not automatically mean a more complicated one.

What this means for organisers considering a first Volt partnership

Volt's pitch to a mid-size or boutique organiser is the same as its pitch to a headline festival: one operator running both Event Lockers and charging, staffed or self-service depending on the crowd, deployed on a site the size of Musik i Lejet's new home just as readily as on a much larger one.
