What fits in a festival locker? The 30x30x50 guide

A Volt Event Locker is 30x30x50 cm, about the size of a half-height oven. Here is what fits, what stays home, and the one packing trick worth knowing before your next festival.

What fits in a festival locker? The 30x30x50 guide

The short answer: a full-size backpack does not fit. A day bag, rain jacket, portable speaker, and a change of clothes does.

A Volt Event Locker is approximately 30 cm wide, 30 cm deep, and 50 cm tall, as listed on the Volt product pages. Picture a half-height oven cabinet. Theoretical volume is 45 litres. How much you actually get in depends almost entirely on whether you roll or fold.

What the numbers mean in practice

The 30 cm width is the constraint that catches people out. Most loaded rucksacks are 35 cm wide or more at their widest point. They will not drop in straight.

The 50 cm height is the other limiter. A standard large festival rucksack sits 55 to 65 cm tall when full. It will not clear the top of the locker without deflating or emptying it first.

What fits is the gear you might carry in a smaller day bag: the spare layer, the dry socks, the cables, the things you want safe and dry but will not need every single hour.

What fits, what does not

Item Fits? Notes
Day bag or tote (15 to 25 L, not fully packed) Yes Lay it on its back; it slides in cleanly
Rain jacket (rolled) Yes A compressed roll takes roughly 15 x 10 cm
One outfit, rolled Yes Roll tight, do not fold
Small Bluetooth speaker Yes SOUNDBOKS will not fit; see below
Powerbank and cables Yes No power outlet inside; charge before you lock up
Sunscreen and small toiletries Yes Tuck them into the gaps
Full-size festival rucksack (35 L+, loaded) No Too tall, too wide
SOUNDBOKS No Way too large; a Soundlock is the right tool for that
Two pairs of shoes No One pair might work; two is too much
Sleeping bag No This belongs in your tent

The packing trick: roll, do not fold

A T-shirt folded flat sits roughly 30 x 25 cm and 2 to 3 cm thick. The same shirt rolled tight becomes a cylinder about 15 cm long and 6 cm across. Do that with every garment and you recover real space, especially across the 30 cm width.

The same rule applies to a rain jacket. Most packable jackets compress into their own pockets. Stuffed first, then placed, they take a fraction of what they would laid flat.

How to use the full 45 litres

  1. Start with the largest item. Usually that is your day bag or the jacket. Put it in first, upright or on its side, then build around it.
  2. Roll clothing into cylinders. Push them into the gaps a flat stack would leave empty.
  3. Keep your active kit elsewhere. The locker is for things you access once or twice a day: the dry outfit for the evening, a spare charger, your good sunscreen. Phone, ticket, and payment stay on you.
  4. Use the full height. 50 cm is generous for upright items. Stand things on end rather than laying them flat.

What never goes in

No power outlet means no charging while locked away. Top up your powerbank before you close the locker. A drained phone inside a locker is not useful to anyone.

Items go in at your own risk and Volt is not responsible for anything left behind. Cash and non-replaceable items belong on your person, not in a locker.

How access works

You get your personal access code by email and SMS shortly before your slot starts. After that, you can open and re-lock the locker as many times as you like during official opening hours, at no extra charge.

That means you can drop your jacket before the headliner and collect your dry shoes at midnight. The locker is under cover and monitored daily.

For how this works at a specific festival, the Smukfest Event Lockers guide covers placement, booking, and opening hours in detail. And if you're still figuring out what to bring to the festival in general, the 10 festival mistakes first-timers make piece is worth a read.

FAQ

Does a day bag fit in a festival locker?

Yes. A day bag in the 15 to 25 litre range fits without trouble, as long as it is not packed solid. Lay it on its back and slide it in.

Can I open my locker more than once?

Yes. Open and re-lock as many times as you like during the locker's official opening hours. Your code stays the same throughout the rental period.

Is there a power outlet inside the locker?

No. Volt Event Lockers do not have power outlets. For charging, use one of the Volt charging services at the festival before you lock up.

Will a SOUNDBOKS fit in the locker?

No. A SOUNDBOKS is much larger than the locker opening. If you want to secure your speaker at camp, Soundlock is the right option: a metal wire and ground spike designed for exactly that.

How do I book a festival locker?

Lockers at Volt-equipped festivals are booked online through getvolt.dk. Booking in advance gets you a better price than at the gate. Check the page for your festival to see what is available this year.

Pack smart, carry less

A Volt Event Locker is 30 x 30 x 50 cm. It fits a day bag, a rain jacket, a change of clothes, and the small extras you need for the evening. A full-size rucksack does not.

The difference between a locker that feels cramped and one with room to spare is almost always how you pack: roll everything, start with the largest piece, and use the full 50 cm of height.

When the headliner starts and you want your hands free, you will be glad the spare layer and the charger are locked away rather than on your back. Check what is available for your festival at getvolt.dk.
