Festningen 2026: guide to Trondheim's summer fortress festival
2-day music festival at Kristiansten Fortress in Trondheim, Norway. DJ Snake, Sigrid and Marcus og Martinus headline 4-5 September 2026. Guide to the lineup, lockers, transport and what to bring.
Festningen returns to Kristiansten Fortress in Trondheim on 4-5 September 2026, drawing around 18,000 festival goers across two nights of pop, hip-hop and electronic music. There is no camping. This is a city festival: you stay in Trondheim, walk or take the bus up to the fortress gates, and see DJ Snake, Sigrid and Marcus og Martinus perform against the old stone ramparts. This guide covers everything you need to know for the 2026 edition, from the lineup and lockers to transport and what to leave at home.
The venue: Kristiansten Fortress
Kristiansten Fortress (Kristiansten Festning) sits on a hill above Trondheim's old city quarter, built in 1681 after a fire levelled much of the town. The fortress held strategic importance for centuries; today it is one of Norway's best-preserved 17th-century military structures and a popular viewpoint over the city and Trondheim Fjord. For two evenings every September the open grounds become the festival site, with stages set into the ramparts and standing areas spread across the upper plateau. The elevated setting and compact layout give the event a different feel from flat-field festivals, and most of the standing area has clear sightlines to the stages. The address is Dronningens gate 11, Trondheim (source: festningen.no).
