Ruisrock 2026: Finland's island rock festival guide

Ruisrock runs 3–5 July 2026 on Ruissalo island, just outside Turku. ↗ ruisrock.fi. It is the oldest rock festival in Finland and one of the oldest in the world, having run since 1970. ↗ Wikipedia. The venue is a national park on an island: no cars, no hotel room to retreat to, just a striking natural setting and three days of music. This is the practical guide for getting there, finding your way around, and keeping your phone alive across the weekend.

Getting to Ruissalo island

Ruissalo island has no car access during the festival weekend. There is no parking on the island either. ↗ ruisrock.fi/en/ruisrock-info. That is not a problem. Turku has several solid options for getting out there, and the festival bus is the fastest.

Festival bus (the easy option)

Festival buses run from Maariankatu 6 in central Turku (stop 472 Puutori). They also call at the bus and railway stations. Buses start running one hour before the festival gates open each day. A 3-day festival bus pass can be bought in advance via the official Ruisrock ticketing pages; single trips can be paid on the bus by contactless card only. The Föli card is not accepted on these buses.

The bus drops you near the Ruissalo Bridge. From there, it is a signposted walk of about two kilometres to the festival area.

Föli city bus (line 28)

The regular Föli bus line 28 runs to Ruissalo at increased frequency on 3–5 July. It departs from Market Square, stop A8, and from the charter bus stop outside Wiklund. The closest stop to the festival entrance is stop #538 Kasvitieteellinen puutarha, about one kilometre from the venue. Water bus

Föli water buses run from Martinsilta Bridge in central Turku to the Ruissalo boatyard. From the boatyard, walk about two kilometres to the festival area. Pay the same way as on a Föli city bus: contactless card, the Föli app, or a travel card. Note that water buses have limited passenger space and get busy at peak times. Bike

Cycling to Ruissalo works well from Turku city centre. Fölläri city bikes cost around €2 per hour and are available through the Donkey Republic app; there are 700+ bikes across the city. ↗ Föli. Bike parking is free on the mainland, with paid options on the island itself.

Taxi

A taxi zone is at Rahtarikuja 2 near the festival. Expect around €25 back to the city centre. Rideshare services also operate between Turku and Ruissalo, though prices go up during peak exit times.

Getting to Turku first

If you are coming from Helsinki: direct trains between Helsinki and Turku are disrupted from 22 June to 26 July 2026. ↗ ruisrock.fi/en/ruisrock-info. Plan for a longer journey or check alternatives. Trains from Tampere to Turku operate as normal. The long-distance bus from Helsinki is another option and is not affected by the rail disruption.

The site

The festival takes place in Kansanpuisto Park, a national park on Ruissalo island, at coordinates 60.44°N 22.19°E. ↗ Wikipedia. The site splits into two areas: Niittyalue (the meadow area, where the main stages sit) and Ranta-alue (the beach area). Terrain is mostly grass and sand, with gravel and asphalt roads marked on the site map. From the beach area it is about 500 metres to the accessible entrance.

The site is large and green, which is a core part of what makes Ruisrock stand out from a city arena show. Come expecting open space, uneven ground, and a lot of walking. Comfortable shoes and something waterproof are a better call than anything you would not want to get muddy.

Keeping your phone alive

A dead phone at Ruisrock is a real problem, not a mild inconvenience. Your ticket is on your phone. Your friends are on your phone. Your way back to the mainland is on your phone.

The festival runs across three full days on an island, which means there is no popping back to a hotel room mid-afternoon to charge. Plan your power before you arrive.

A few things that help:

• Bring your own powerbank. They are explicitly allowed through the gates. ↗ bag rules
• Charge everything to 100% the night before and the morning of.
• Turn off background app refresh and lower screen brightness once on site.
• Download your tickets, your festival map, and your transport app (Donkey Republic, Föli) before you arrive. Roaming data on a crowded island is unpredictable.

Event Lockers at Ruisrock

A locker means you can arrive light: leave your bag, jacket, or anything you do not want to carry through a crowd inside, and come back whenever you need it. The lockers are monitored daily.

Booking is open for Ruisrock 2026. You can book online at getvolt.dk ↗. Options include a day pass or a full festival booking. Booking before you arrive saves queuing on site.

What to bring (and what to leave at home)

Ruisrock's bag policy is clearly set out on the official info page ↗. The short version:

Not allowed through the gate:

• Glass containers or metal containers of any kind
• Alcohol, narcotics, or nitrous oxide
• Umbrellas, strollers, aerosols
• Weapons, explosives, laser pointers
• Pets (except registered assistance animals)

Allowed:

• One empty plastic bottle (any size)
• Powerbanks, tablets, DSLR and GoPro cameras
• Medications, sunscreen, hand sanitiser (non-glass)
• Picnic blankets
• Unopened e-cigarette liquid

There are water refill stations on site, so bringing a reusable bottle is the right move. The no-glass rule is firm: do not pack glass and hope for the best at the gate.

Sleeping near the festival

There is no camping inside the festival grounds. Two practical options nearby:

Ruissalo Camping is on the island itself, a short walk from the festival site. It takes tent pitches and is the closest you can sleep to the stages. Check current pricing and availability directly at the campsite before booking; prices can vary by pitch type and date. Booking in advance is wise as it fills up.

School accommodation in Turku offers dormitory-style beds at around €30 per night per person. It is further from the island but cheaper and a solid base if you are happy to catch the festival bus each day.

Turku's city hotels put you close to the festival bus and water bus departure points, which makes the daily commute to the island simple.

Tickets and entry

Ruisrock 2026 runs on these hours, per the official info page ↗:

• Friday 3 July: gates open 3 PM, close 2 AM
• Saturday 4 July: gates open 1 PM, close 2 AM
• Sunday 5 July: gates open 2 PM, close midnight

Standard tickets are scanned daily at the gate rather than exchanged for a wristband. Plus and VIP tickets do get a wristband. Keep your ticket app working and your screen brightness up when you arrive at the gate.

About Ruisrock

Ruisrock has been running since 1970. ↗ Wikipedia. That makes it the oldest rock festival in Finland and the second-oldest in Europe. The first edition drew far more people than anyone expected: organisers anticipated around 5,000 and got 38,000. The island has been the home of Finnish rock summers ever since.

Frequently asked questions

Can I drive to Ruissalo for Ruisrock?

No. Driving to Ruissalo island is not possible during the festival weekend and there is no parking on the island. ↗ ruisrock.fi/en/ruisrock-info. The festival bus, Föli city bus line 28, water bus from Martinsilta Bridge, and cycling are the options. Taxis can drop off and pick up at the zone on Rahtarikuja 2.

Is there camping at Ruisrock?

There is no camping inside the festival grounds. Ruissalo Camping is on the island, a short walk from the site, and is the closest overnight option. School accommodation in Turku is a budget option further out. Check availability and book directly with the campsite or accommodation providers.

How do I get from Helsinki to Ruisrock?

Long-distance buses from Helsinki to Turku are not affected and run regularly from the Helsinki bus terminal. From Turku, take the festival bus or Föli out to the island.
